Visit Sake Brewery with us and Discover the Secret!

Hi everyone, here is another tour report of Kyoto Insider Sake Experience!

We had sake tour in Kyoto Fushimi where you can find great local sake. This day we had guests from New York, Melbourne and Sydney. First, we went to sake brewery in Fushimi to learn the history of Japanese sake and making processes. The brewery is called “Gekkeikan (月桂冠)”. Gekkeikan is the biggest and oldest brewery in Fushimi area. It was first time for all of our guests and everyone was surprised to see huge brewery.

9/22-2

As well as the history and the process of producing sake, we learned what ingredients of sake are there. The way of producing sake is similar to wine making processes so we learned about “what the particular differences between sake (nihonsyu) and wine are”.

9/22-3

While we were doing sake tasting, which is made in Fushimi and food pairing, we learned how to read sake bottles in Japanese. Guide teaches some Japanese characters “kanji” for choosing your own preferred sakes. You will also learn categories of sake such as fruity, rich taste..you can find it written on the each bottle.

Our Sake Tour Reviews

  •   The tour was very informative for a guy whose experience with sake is very limited. The best part for me was the visit to an old sake brewery close by. With this attraction you will know if sake is your thing or not.

  •   Kotaro and Merica were fantastic guides and so knowledgeable. It wasn’t quite as expected but we loved it nevertheless. If in two minds, do it. And Kotaro’s English was fantastic.
