Our Visit to “Sakagura”
During our recent visit, we stopped by “Sakagura,” one of the central restaurants in the complex.

One of their highlights is a tasting set featuring 18 different kinds of sake—a perfect option for those who want to compare a wide range of flavors.
But this time, what really caught our attention was the sake and food pairing set.

This menu includes nine different Kyoto sakes, each paired with a small dish. The combinations are thoughtfully arranged, making it easy to understand how sake and food complement each other.
Light, crisp sake is paired with delicate flavors, while richer, umami-forward sake is matched with more deeply seasoned dishes.
It’s like experiencing a curated sake course without needing any prior knowledge.
Even if you are new to sake, all you need to do is relax, take a sip, enjoy a bite, and discover what you like.At the same time, understanding why these pairings work—the role of aroma, texture, and structure—is what turns this from an enjoyable meal into a more refined sake experience.
Flexible Tasting Options
If you prefer a simpler experience, the three-sake tasting set is another great option.

You can choose your set by brewery in Kyoto or by flavor profile—such as dry, fruity, or even wine-like—making it both flexible and fun.

For those who would like to taste some premium sake, they also offer options like a “Yuki no yoi” set.
Shinsei Kagami Junmai Daiginjo (Yamamoto Honke sake brewery)
Diamond Daiginjo (Kizakura sake brewery)
Ikkaku Premium Junmai Daiginjo (Miyakozuru sake brewery)
More Dishes to Explore
There are plenty of other dishes that pair wonderfully with sake.

Assorted Sashimi

Gyoza

Fushimiyaki (grilled chicken, pork and beef)

Anchovy Potato Salad (left)
Sake Leeds Butter (middle)
Iburi-gakko and Nuts Cream Cheese (right)(Iburi-gakko is smoked daikon radish pickles)
Many dishes are accompanied by photos in the menu book, making it easy to follow what catches your eye—sometimes, choosing by intuition is part of the fun.
In a place like this, there’s no single “right” choice.
You take a sip, try a bite, and before you know it, you’ve created your own perfect combination.
That sense of discovery is what makes the experience truly memorable.
